Frieze Unveils Inaugural Abu Dhabi Art Fair Lineup Featuring 84 Global Galleries

International art fair organization Frieze has officially announced the full gallery lineup for its inaugural edition in Abu Dhabi, marking the brand's first venture into the Middle East. Scheduled to run from November 19 to November 22, the major fair will bring together 84 galleries representing 63 cities across 36 countries and regions. The event will take place at Manarat Al Saadiyat, located in the rapidly expanding Saadiyat Cultural District of the United Arab Emirates capital. The launch builds upon the seventeen-year legacy of Abu Dhabi Art, which the new fair directly succeeds through an official partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi. Organizers first revealed plans for the transition last year, intending to connect the emirate's established creative community with Frieze's worldwide network of collectors, curators, and institutional leaders. The roster of exhibitors includes major international commercial dealerships alongside prominent galleries rooted across the Arabian Gulf, North Africa, and South Asia. Kristell Chadé, the executive director of fairs at Frieze, noted that the inaugural edition aims to reflect the depth and artistic ambition of the United Arab Emirates and the broader WANASA region—a widely used geographic acronym encompassing West Asia, North Africa, and South Asia. Chadé affirmed that the fair’s primary mission is to foster meaningful, lasting dialogues on the global art stage by bridging regional heritage with international contemporary practice. The debut fair will unfold within a district that has become a central focal point for global cultural investment. Manarat Al Saadiyat serves as a public hub for community programs, artist residencies, and creative workshops, situated near landmark institutions such as the Louvre Abu Dhabi and future developments including the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi. Organizers have emphasized that the fair will host public talks, curated performance programs, and special installations alongside commercial presentations. Participating galleries will showcase a broad spectrum of modern and contemporary artistic disciplines, ranging from painting, sculpture, and photography to experimental digital art and site-specific commissions.
