Dear Readers, If you've visited Planet Earth News Network over the past few weeks, you've likely noticed that things look a little different around here. Maybe you paused, looked around, and wondered if you'd typed the URL correctly. You did. We've been busy. Today, we're officially unveiling the most significant redesign and expansion of PENN since our launch, and we want to take a moment to walk you through what's changed, why we changed it, and where we go from here. Most importantly, we want to thank you—every one of you—for your patience while we tore apart the old site and stitched together something we think is considerably better. ## A New Look and Feel Let's start with the obvious: the layout and design have been overhauled from top to bottom. The old site served us well, but it was showing its age. Navigation was clunky on mobile, the typography was inconsistent, and the homepage didn't reflect the breadth of what we actually cover. So we ripped it out and started fresh. The new design is cleaner, faster, and more intuitive. Articles load quicker. The homepage organizes stories by category and region so you can find what matters to you without digging. The mobile experience—which, let's be honest, was not great before—is now something we're genuinely proud of. Whether you're reading on a phone in Lagos, a tablet in Toronto, or a desktop in Dallas, the site should feel like it was built for your screen, because it was. ## Sports Rankings: A New Vertical One of the biggest additions is our new Sports Rankings page, which went live this month and is now accessible directly from the main navigation bar.^1^ This is something we've wanted to do for a long time, and it's exactly what it sounds like: a dedicated hub for rankings across nine sports—American Football, Australian Rules Football, Arena Football, Rugby, Baseball, Basketball, Cricket, MMA, and Boxing. We built this because sports coverage without rankings is like a map without a compass. You can see the terrain, but you don't know which direction matters. Our rankings page will be updated regularly, and we'll be expanding the depth of coverage for each sport in the coming months, with dedicated writers and analysts joining the team to provide context, not just numbers. ## Listen to Article Not everyone has the time—or the eyes—to sit and read every article. Maybe you're commuting. Maybe you're cooking. Maybe your eyes are tired from staring at screens all day. We get it. That's why we've added a "Listen to Article" feature across our content. At the top of every article, you'll now find an audio player that lets you hear the piece read aloud. The feature is powered by natural-sounding text-to-speech technology, and it works on both desktop and mobile. We'll be refining the voices and adding more language options in the coming weeks, but the core functionality is live now. ## PENN Podcast on Spotify In addition to reading our journalism—or listening to individual articles—you can now hear from us in a different format entirely. We've launched the official PENN Podcast on Spotify, where we'll be diving deeper into the stories behind the headlines. Expect interviews with reporters, analysis of major global developments, roundtable discussions, and the occasional behind-the-scenes look at how the news gets made. The first several episodes are available now. New episodes drop weekly. Search "Planet Earth News Network" on Spotify or follow the link from our homepage. ## Engage, Compete, and Test Yourself We believe news should be a conversation, not a monologue. To that end, we've added three new features designed to make your time on PENN more interactive. First, we've launched a **Reader Engagement Leaderboard**. Every time you comment on an article, share a story, or participate in a discussion, you earn points. The leaderboard tracks the most active and engaged members of the PENN community each month, and top contributors will be recognized with badges, shout-outs, and the occasional perk. We're still finalizing the reward structure, but the goal is simple: we want to celebrate the people who make PENN more than just a website. Second, we've added a **News Quiz**. Every weekday, we'll publish a short quiz based on that day's headlines. It's a quick way to test whether you're paying attention to the world—and maybe learn something you missed. The quizzes are free, they take about two minutes, and they're harder than you think. Third, we're now publishing a **Daily Crossword**. It's a general-knowledge crossword with a newsy twist—many of the clues reference current events, geography, history, and the kind of trivia that news junkies tend to accumulate. Malpass-Editor) ## Our New Affiliate Partnerships This is the part that requires the most explanation, and we want to be transparent about it. We have recently joined the affiliate programs of five companies: **ZZounds Music**, **MoonCool**, **Klook**, **Bodi**, and **Hans Breuker**. For those unfamiliar with how affiliate programs work: when we link to a product or service from one of these partners and a reader makes a purchase, we earn a small commission at no additional cost to the reader. We want to be clear about why we did this and what it means for you. Running a global news platform is expensive. Servers, content management systems, reporter salaries, freelance commissions, editing, fact-checking, legal review, hosting, security—these costs add up, and they grow as we grow. Advertising has traditionally been the primary way digital publications cover these costs, but the advertising ecosystem is broken. Programmatic ads—the kind that show up automatically and are targeted by algorithms—often serve up low-quality, irrelevant, or even misleading content to readers. We don't want that. You don't want that. By joining select affiliate programs, we gain more control over what appears on our site and who is advertising to you. We chose these five partners specifically because their products and services are relevant to our audience and meet a quality bar we're comfortable putting our name behind. ZZounds Music serves our readers who care about music and audio gear. MoonCool and Klook serve our travel and lifestyle audience. Bodi serves readers interested in fitness and wellness. Hans Breuker serves readers interested in acquiring that special piece of artwork. We will never force affiliate links into articles where they don't belong. We will never recommend a product we wouldn't use ourselves. And we will always disclose when a link is an affiliate link. If a partner ever falls short of our standards, we'll end the relationship. It's that simple. The revenue from these partnerships helps offset our operating costs, which in turn helps us keep most of our content free and invest in better journalism. That's the trade-off, and we think it's a fair one. ## Thank You None of this would matter without you.
