1. Ancient Founding and Historical Roots: Historical records trace Mombasa's origins back to roughly 900 AD, cementing its status as Kenya's oldest urban center. By the 12th century, renowned Arab geographer Muhammad al-Idrisi documented Mombasa as a prosperous trading hub along the Indian Ocean. Its deep-rooted history made it a pivotal coastal crossroad for merchant networks extending across Africa, Arabia, India, and China.
