Career and Major Accomplishments

Burrows turned professional with Aston Villa in 1958, quickly establishing a reputation as an exceptionally fast forward with an explosive left-foot shot. He was an integral part of the Aston Villa squad that won the Football League Second Division title in the 1959–60 season to earn promotion to the First Division. The following season, he helped Villa capture the inaugural Football League Cup in 1961. In 1962, his impressive domestic form earned him an international cap for the England national under-23 team. Over seven years with Villa, Burrows tallied 53 goals in 147 league appearances and amassed 157 appearances across all competitions.

In 1965, Burrows transferred to Stoke City, where he enjoyed the most prolific period of his playing career. Across eight years with the Potters, he appeared in 245 league matches (281 appearances overall) and scored 68 league goals (79 in total competitions), becoming a perennial fan favorite at the Victoria Ground. In 1967, he also had a short spell abroad on loan with the Cleveland Stokers during the United Soccer Association’s inaugural season in the United States, scoring 3 goals in 9 games.
