The government of Kazakhstan is set to introduce a new mandatory entry requirement for foreign citizens visiting the country. Starting August 25, 2026, international travelers will be required to obtain a QazETA electronic entry permit before arrival. This digital system is designed to streamline the border process and modernize immigration management. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed the legislation to establish this framework earlier this year. The new rule applies to foreign nationals who are not otherwise exempt from entry permit requirements. Travelers are encouraged to prepare for this change well in advance of their planned trips. The QazETA platform is accessible via a mobile application available on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. During the current pilot phase, the use of the system is recommended to help visitors familiarize themselves with the process. Once the mandate takes effect, it will become a compulsory step for entry into the nation. It is important to note that the QazETA is not a visa and does not replace existing visa requirements for those who need them. Instead, it functions as a digital pre-approval mechanism similar to systems used in countries like the United States and New Zealand. Beyond the entry permit, the QazETA platform offers various digital services for foreign nationals. These include options for e-visas, e-residency status, and official border crossing certificates. The system supports multiple visa categories, including those for business, investment, and tourism purposes. Citizens from 104 countries remain eligible to apply for a single-entry electronic visa through the platform. Travelers should verify their specific visa status and entry requirements before booking their travel. The introduction of this system reflects a broader trend of countries adopting digital tools to manage international arrivals. By moving to an electronic format, authorities aim to improve security and efficiency at ports of entry. Visitors are advised to check official government resources for the most current information regarding their travel documents. Staying informed about these policy updates helps ensure a smooth and stress-free travel experience.
