Don Jeffrey “Jeff” Meldrum was born on May 24, 1958, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He pursued his academic interests in zoology and anatomy, earning his B.S. in 1982 and his M.S. in 1984, both from Brigham Young University, where he specialized in vertebrate locomotion. He later completed his Ph.D. in anatomical sciences at Stony Brook University in 1989, focusing on biological anthropology under the mentorship of his doctoral advisor, John G. Fleagle.

Career and Accomplishments

Dr. Meldrum was a dedicated academic who served as a full professor of Anatomy and Anthropology in the Department of Biological Sciences at Idaho State University (ISU). Throughout his career, he also held roles as an adjunct professor in the Department of Physical and Occupational Therapy and the Department of Anthropology. His early professional journey included a position as a postdoctoral visiting assistant professor at Duke University Medical Center from 1989 to 1991, followed by a tenure at Northwestern University’s Department of Cell, Molecular and Structural Biology in 1993 before joining the faculty at ISU.

An expert in foot morphology and the evolution of bipedal locomotion in primates, Dr. Meldrum gained international recognition for his scientific approach to the study of the Sasquatch phenomenon.
