Murad Yagizarov, a distinguished Soviet and Azerbaijani actor whose career spanned nearly seven decades, has died at the age of 86. He passed away on September 13, 2025, in Munich, Germany, following a long illness.

Early Life and Education

Born Hacı Murad Hacı Ahmed oğlu Yagizarov on July 18, 1939, in Baku, Azerbaijan SSR, he displayed an early passion for the performing arts. While participating in his school's drama club, his talent was recognized by the prominent actor Alasgar Alakbarov, who encouraged him to pursue formal theatrical training. Yagizarov subsequently enrolled in the acting faculty of the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under the guidance of Maharram Hashimov from 1958 to 1962.

Career and Accomplishments

In 1962, Yagizarov began his long-standing association with the Azerbaijan State Academic Russian Drama Theatre named after Samad Vurgun. Throughout his prolific career, he became a fixture of the Azerbaijani cultural landscape. His contributions to the arts were formally recognized in 1982 when he was named a People's Artiste of the Azerbaijan SSR. In addition to his theatrical work, he was a laureate of the State Prize, reflecting his significant impact on the national cinema and stage.

Beyond his artistic endeavors, Yagizarov was a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1973 to 1991.
