Producer History

The Craigellachie Distillery was founded in 1891 by the Craigellachie-Glenlivet Distillery Company, a group led by Alexander Edward and Sir Peter Mackie. Designed by the renowned architect Charles Doig, the distillery features a signature pagoda roof. In 1927, it was acquired by the Distillers Company Limited (DCL). Following a major modernization in 1964 that doubled its capacity, the distillery was eventually sold by Diageo to John Dewar & Sons in 1998, which is now a subsidiary of Bacardi.

The Craigellachie 13 Year is part of a core range launched in 2014, featuring age statements based on prime numbers to reflect the distillery's contrarian personality. The spirit is defined by the use of traditional worm tub condensers—coiled copper pipes submerged in cold water—which create a heavier, more savory new-make spirit. The whisky is matured in a blend of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks, with 50% of the blend undergoing further refinement in first-fill Sherry casks. It is bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered, and contains no added caramel coloring.
