Producer History
The Glengyle Distillery was originally founded in 1872 by William Mitchell, a member of a prominent distilling family who established the site after a business disagreement with his brother. The distillery operated until 1925 before closing its doors. In 2000, the site was acquired by J&A Mitchell, the owners of the nearby Springbank distillery. After extensive renovation and rebuilding, the distillery reopened in 2004. Because the original 'Glengyle' brand name had been sold to another company, the owners chose the name 'Kilkerran'—derived from the Gaelic 'Cille Chiarain,' the original name for the settlement of Campbeltown—for their single malt output.

Kilkerran 12 Year serves as the flagship expression of the distillery. It was created to showcase the craft of the revived Glengyle facility. The whisky is produced using a specific maturation strategy: 70% of the spirit is aged in ex-Bourbon casks, while 30% is aged in ex-Sherry casks. It is bottled at 46% ABV, is non-chill filtered, and contains no artificial coloring, ensuring a pure representation of the distillery's house style.
